GRIMEBLOG – SB.TV – THE SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND

DON’T WATCH ME, WATCH SB.TV

LIAM TOOTILL CHARTS THE BIGGEST MOVERS IN 2010 TO DATE…

The grime scene, and whole UK urban umbrella, is in a healthy place right about now. For years the scene has had to progress, develop and expand, against a backdrop of negativity. And perhaps some of this persecution the grime game has faced in its relatively brief and chequered history, will continue; only today UK hip hop artist Giggs had his UK tour pulled by the Met; “police said that they had met with the promoters of the London gig, set to take place at the O2 Islington Academy on March 4, and that potential risks were highlighted. The rest of the rapper’s tour was subsequently pulled.” Giggs isn’t fretting though. He doesn’t need to. Only recently signed up to the world renowned XL recordings, his debut solo single ‘Don’t Go There (Featuring B.o.B)’ was released on Sunday and is currently situated at 54th (and continually rising) in the iTunes single chart. Buy it for ONLY 79p here. Giggs is keeping positive through this latest setback, thanking the police for the promotion.

Last week Dizzee Rascal won Best British Male at the Brit Awards 2010. This is a real good look for the scene. Evidence, if we ever needed it, that the UK urban acts are gaining credibility and appreciation. Also, another rising star from the grime game, Devlin, was signed up to Island Records only a few days ago. He signed up to the label, and now all energies are being put into releasing the highly-anticipated Bud, Sweat and Beers albums. He will continue to be a member of Outakers and making music with friends from the scene like Ghetts and Griminal.

Another big artist that is well worthy of a mention in this post is straight, hard-talking Ashley Thomas aka Bashy. “Pass a mask, them man are gassed. Wow!” This emcee is in “papers, movies and magazines” and I’m not surprised to be honest. He work rate must be a madness ting. This month alone (and we’re still not through) has seen him amass nearly 150,000 new YouTube views, and with the release of Shank next month, I won’t be surprised to see Bashy with a top ten chart single in the not-to-distant future. If you’ve missed any of Bashy’s latest additions to his QUARANTINE SEASON portfolio then don’t fear. Here they are for you to enjoy:

Pass Out Freestyle (Tinie Tempah cover)

Jail Tales – Bashy Freestyle – BBC Three

Over 20,000 YouTube Views in one week

When The Sky Falls (Shank Theme Song) *Official Video*

Over 85,000 YouTube views in one week

Bashy F64 *Special Edition*

Over 13,000 YouTube views in the first day

Boof!

AND FINALLY…

I hope that you lot are staying on top of the War Report (Ghetts and P Money beef) and all the other latest grime releases with DJ Logan Sama on his Monday night Kiss100 radio show. Also if you haven’t seen them already here are the articles found in The Times and RWD Magazine respectively, featuring no other than Jamal Edwards aka SB.TV. “Jamal Edwards is a fresh-faced student standing at the edge of the dancefloor at a benefit for Haiti. Wearing a backpack and carrying a video camera, he is typical of many entrepreneurial satellite characters who are turning grime into not just a sound, but a movement.” SMOKEYBARZ goin’ in hard from day dot. Dun know.

Sometimes I think that my daily dose of SB.TV is more important than 1 of my 5 a day.

  1. Music bands promotion, tools to create viral marketing campaigns…

Yes, our tools were design for Internet Marketing, but now we see record labels, promotion agents and established bands buying them. So the music promotion business in social media sites are changing again….

  2. Hi, I found this page on Bing and just wanted to say thanks for adding this top list. I would have to agree with it, thanks again!
